Youth Careers Exhibitions will be hosted in September 2022 in Ugu District as part of a resolution adopted during the September 2022 Ugu District Youth Indaba to address youth unemployment through skills development.

AgriSETA hosted the Expo to increase learners’ awareness about the vast career opportunities available to them post-matriculation, as well as to expose unemployed youth in the Ugu District Municipality to economic opportunities.

A four-minute interactive session was held at each exhibition stall for each group of learners. It was through these brief but informative presentations that we were able to engage in an authentic dialogue and form genuine connections.

Specific Courses and Career in ICT

Attendees expressed considerable interest in specific courses and career paths in the ICT sphere as a result of FoICT’s presence. The ICT domain has the potential to bridge the agriculture and ICT divides, and both learners and industry partners are interested in how it can do so.

“The attendees learned how skills acquired at FoICT can be used in the agricultural sector, including information on the latest cutting-edge technologies,” Matthews Mfati, a postgraduate student in the Department of Computer Systems Engineering at FoICT, said.

He was part of a group displaying innovative tech products that could be integrated with agricultural products. Among them are smart greenhouses, incubators, conveyors, agricultural drones, intelligent weed detection systems, and smart home automation systems.

A great deal of information was provided to learners at the Expo, including information about available ICT courses and career prospects in the field. Dr Etienne van Wyk, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of ICT, was instrumental in making this happen,” said Thom Leholo, a technician and lecturer at the Department of Computer Systems Engineering.
