TUT Student Receives National Award for Outstanding Research in SAIRAC. SAIRAC Recognizes Tshwane University of Technology Doctoral Student’s Exceptional Contributions. 

Bongani Radebe, a dedicated doctoral student from the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) at Tshwane University of Technology, has recently been honored with the prestigious national award for outstanding research by The South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (SAIRAC).

The SAIRAC National Prize is an esteemed accolade presented to the author of the best thesis on refrigeration and air conditioning by a final-year student at any higher institution in South Africa.

This recognition is part of SAIRAC’s commitment to annually commend individuals making exceptional contributions to research and development in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry, with impacts both nationally and internationally.

Radebe Academic Focus

As a full-time doctoral student specializing in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Thermodynamics, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Energy Storage, Radebe stood out for presenting the most outstanding thesis among final-year students across various universities in South Africa.

Innovative Research

Radebe’s groundbreaking research project involved the invention of a new phase change thermal storage unit, utilizing nanoparticles to enhance cold chain applications. This innovation holds significant promise for advancing the capabilities of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Supervision and Mentorship

Professor Huan, who has been supervising Radebe since his Master’s program, attests to Radebe’s refined skills, positive attitude, and extensive knowledge in refrigeration and its applications. According to Prof Huan, Radebe possesses the qualifications necessary to address real-world problems, generate new knowledge, and innovate technologies and products.
