The importance of entrepreneurship in national and international policies for long-term economic development and resolving basic socio-economic issues continues to grow. Both developed and developing countries have the largest number of small and medium-sized businesses. Globally, governments invest massive resources in skills-based training, particularly in the higher education sector, in order to improve citizens’ productivity.TUT Tampere University Discuss Entrepreneurship Education

Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka argues that universities need to recognize the importance of entrepreneurial behavior for a country’s development. Students at tertiary institutions are now encouraged to gain essential skills employers are looking for in their job candidates.

Having participated in these discussions, Dr Anshu Padayachee, CEO of THENSA, believes that the bespoke Tampere University programme will enhance our student entrepreneurs’ training and will certainly lead to increased job creation, a reduction in the soaring unemployment rates, and a reduction in poverty.

An entrepreneurial development centre under the Faculty of Management Sciences was established last year to create programs and develop entrepreneurial capacity through the use of a blended lean start-up pedagogy to teach business management and entrepreneurship.

Dr Papu-Zamxaka concluded by saying that the TUT and Tampere University of Applied Sciences collaboration was beneficial and agreement will be finalized shortly.  The two universities are discussing sharing of resources on the academic front and promoting entrepreneurship among students and youths, she said.
