Conference on Climate Change Research to be held by TUT and CoT

In March, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will co-host a two-day conference at Tshwane House, Pretoria, on Climate Change Research.

This event will be held under the theme of Tshwane Climate Action Plan: Sharing knowledge for effective and collaborative climate action.

Research Community

At the conference, representatives of the academic and research community from the local and international world will present their research that will address ways in which Tshwane can mitigate and adapt to climate change, as well as fostering new research areas for enhancing the implementation of the Climate Action Plan (CAP).

TUT and CoT collaboration

It is TUT and CoT collaboration that will result in strategies addressing both the causes and consequences of climate change, both locally rooted, globally aware, responsive and pragmatic institutions. They will share ideas, and debate current local research and development initiatives.

There will be discussions on the following topics at the conference:

  • The development of climate change adaptation scenarios to support strategic planning and implementation.
  • Improved forecasting models for high-impact weather.
  • Tshwane’s Urban Heat Island Effect: its drivers and impacts.
  • Southern Africa GeoStation monitoring network, powered by TUT-SARAO.
  • Monitoring Tshwane’s Environmental Quality with Geospatial Technology.
  • Statistical analysis of waste composition from landfills at the Tshwane Municipality.
  • With the help of the JETP deal, cities can help transform South Africa’s economy.
  • Co-operative efforts to reduce disaster risk in Tshwane in support of sustainable development goals.
  • Plan for building climate resilient communities in the City of Tshwane 2050.
